IAGO CHERNOBOG
OVERVIEW
NAME: Iago Chernobog
ALIAS: The Dead-Eye Mage | Indigo
GENDER: Male
AGE: 25
SPECIES: Human
SEXUALITY: Eh. If they're smart, might as well?
GUILD: Fairy Tail (previously) | Wanderer (current)
GUILD MARK: The Fairy Tail brand is on the back of his right hand, but it's been burned and mutilated beyond recognition.
CLASS: B-Class
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT: 5'9
WEIGHT: 124 lbs
EYE COLOR: Blue
HAIR COLOR: Black (current) | Red (natural)
SKIN COLOR: Pale beyond belief; The few remaining portions of him that aren't burned to Hell and back look as though they were ripped straight from a decomposing corpse and slapped onto the visage of a man in his prime.
BUILD: Athletic; He's lanky and thin, but he's well built nonetheless.
ABNORMALITIES: There are two keen abnormalities that Iago possesses in terms of appearance.
The first is the fact that his eyes, while fully functional, do not retain light; His pupils never have a glimmer to them, which often leaves others to assume that he's lost his sight somehow (spoiler: he hasn't, he never intends to, and he will use their assumptions to his advantage).
The second is the myriad of discolored patches across his skin. These splattered marks of indigo and violet aren't only the reason behind his new name, but exist as a testament to his destructive potential.
FACE CLAIM NAME: Dabi
FACE CLAIM SERIES: My Hero Academia / Boku no Hero Academia
Born of tragedy and wrought by the pits of Hell itself, Iago exists as an eternal answer to an unspoken question: How much can one man burn? His body is marred with discolored patches of skin that range from his lower jaw to his abdomen, with these collectives seemingly held in place by several iron staple-like piercings around their edges. He appears to be able to take these piercings out at well, as well as place them in, without feeling any large amount of pain.
What remains of his natural appearance is sickly and pale, as though the skin he wears isn’t even his. It isn’t uncommon for others to become unnerved if they manage to catch a glimpse of his actual appearance: He knows that he's not exactly pleasant in terms of appearance and, as such, often covering them up to the best of his abilities to both spare other's the sight... and make sure that they don't pick up on his former affiliation.
Rarely do others get to glimpse his scars without his explicit permission; He takes great care to keep them from being shown off, no matter the setting. He prefers to keep them hidden by any means possible, including wearing baggy clothing.

He may not be a demon biologically, but he's an absolute devil in terms of personality. Easily pleased but rarely ever satisfied, Iago has made somewhat of a reputation for himself as being the type of paradoxical person who infuriates others just by existing at times.
He always wants more: More contact, more friends, more people to be around... but, at the same time, is never satisfied with what he has and gets bored of it all extremely easily. He can have a thousand people calling him 'friend', but he'll grow tired of them in a week. In the same vein, he can have the strongest artifact known to man in his hands, but he'll toss it over his shoulder or use it as a paperweight for the rest of his life simply because he got bored of it. He wants everything, but would get tired of it in a week and go back to being a nobody afterwards. Infamy, fame, fortune, whatever - No matter what it is, it's guaranteed that he'll get bored of it after enough time passes.
To that end, though, he's pretty easy to please. Give him a warm drink or somewhere to stay for the night and you'll have guaranteed safety from whatever outburst gets triggered later on. In the short time, he's a very easy person to get along with: He minds his business, keeps his head low, and rarely gets in anyone's way if he doesn't have to when he's in a good mood. On first glance, these qualities make him a perfect partner for assignments, or a seeming push-over in a fight...
But they don't always apply.
Iago can be downright brutal. People who have known him for most of his life cite the wanderer as being a distant, selfish, uncooperative and perfectionist jerk. The endearing qualities he has on first glance - his patience, his privacy, his sense of social standing - become downright annoying and hazardous when in the wrong situations. Oh, you're crushed by a boulder? Sucks to be you. You got jumped and robbed? What a pity. On casual days, someone can easily mistake this jerk for someone who just minds his own business instead of someone who just does not care enough to get involved in petty shenanigans.
It's for this reason that he's gained a reputation as a talented mage who is an absolute pain to deal with. He's a Wanderer, sure, and he'll do jobs here and there if he has to... but really, do you want to work with him? He rarely ever listens to others, is dead-set in his ways, and will rarely acknowledge anyone in a fight if they give him commands other than flipping a very notable hand gesture at them. He knows what he's doing, he knows how to handle himself, and he knows how to deal with his own crap. He doesn't need someone else getting in the way. If you ever go on a job or mission with him, expect nothing short of distance, indifference, and downright selfishness from this absolute tool.
Of course, none of this is to say he isn't efficient with what he does. While he doesn't exactly listen to others, he is knowledgable about how to get stuff done. His methods might be unconventional and his attitude may be the equivalent of moldy bread at times, but he'll rarely ever come back from a task empty-handed. In a fight, he's brutal: He'll cut someone down in an instant, and doesn't bother with the whole "I'll hold back until I really need to let loose" mentality that he's occasionally noticed in others. Why would he spend his valuable time waiting for some idiot to finish their monologue when he's got a spell perfectly fit for ending them already? That'd just be a waste of time.
Believe it or not, he doesn't really like guilds. He views most of them as wastes of time where everyone is treated as special and, while he does value his time spent with Fairy Tail, will openly admit to having that same view of the guild that brought him to this point. Granted, he won't say that they're horrible by any means - he's smart enough to know to watch his tongue - but that won't keep the casual under-his-breath curse from slipping out when it's brought up. He'd never hurt the guild, and would in fact work alongside their own with a little less objection than he usually provides on tasks, but doesn't exactly hold them in the best light.
He is remarkably spiteful of the idea of being 'special', to the point where he's hidden his scars, changed his name to a simple 'Indigo' calling card, and has otherwise kept to himself in order to avoid being caught up in anything big. He wants a simple life of exploration, that's it. He doesn't want to be someone's teacher. He doesn't want to be a part of someone's found family.
He just wants to be left alone.
Is that so much to ask for?
HISTORY
The Chernobog Family was already a mess. Neither of them had thought a single thing through in the entirety of their lives, and it showed with painstaking clarity. Having met at a tavern years earlier, his mother and father fell fast and hard for one another thanks to their shared reckless abandon where jobs were concerned. His father was a Rune Knight of… decent strength, while his mother was an adventurer under the Fairy Tail guild, and a rather… meh one at that. Neither of them were particularly notable in their fields and, as they settled down in a small country home, could have best been compared to background characters in someone else’s show.
It was a tale as old as time: Dumb met dumber, and the two had a child who somehow had more braincells than the both of them combined. Iago Chernobog was born with more competency than his parents ever had, immediately showing promise in the intellectual fields. He learned to read quickly, and was soon taking in multi-chapter novels with ease. He figured out complex problems without batting an eye. He possessed a great deal of natural wit about him growing up and, even with the presence of an unearthly key feature, was a rather popular boy in his area.
Unfortunately for his parents, that key figure existed.
Even better for Iago, it was impossible to hide.
Alongside his intellect and wit, Iago had been born with “dead” eyes. They retained no light, showed no emotion, and generally creeped people out if they happened to meet his gaze for too long. Despite the lack of light in his eyes, multiple healers confirmed that there was nothing there to fix: Iago could see just fine. There wasn’t early onset blindness at play, there wasn’t a strange illness at play, it was just that his eyes were always cold. Distant. Like he was staring at something that no one else could see, let alone fathom.
The fact that he looked like a walking corpse didn’t help him make friends growing up, but destructive magic did. The moment he figured out how to cast his first spell, he was on fire. Literally, of course. His magic was brash and untamed, destructive and easily blamed as the source of devastation around their home. Kitchen fires were set after he ran out of milk. The living room combusted multiple times due to the fact that he couldn’t play the board game that he wanted to play. He was a menace, out of control and unable to get a lid on his own magic.
But his peers loved destructive crap. They praised him when he set stuff on fire or mustered up a peculiar card, and he quickly grew to be rather popular. His parents tried to utilize this sought after praise to get Iago to calm down during his tantrums and, surprise, they managed to keep him calm by complimenting him day in and day out. He wasn’t being raised by his parents, he was practically the one raising them: The power dynamic shifted to Iago always demanding praise and holding his parents essentially hostage… until they had enough.
Or, more specifically, his mother had enough.
The matriarch of the Chernobog clan hauled him to Fairy Tail, right at the feet of one of her old colleagues. What followed was a nightmare for Iago: This man would become his babysitter whenever his parents were out and, in their absence, he was made to learn discipline. He couldn’t scare this man. He couldn’t even intimidate him. The goliath was unfazed by anything he said and did and, for that fact, Iago grew to respect him. Slowly but surely, the two worked together to get control over his abilities.
By the age of eighteen, Iago’s prodigy nature had become all too clear. His spells were now controlled to a finite point in comparison to his mother and father’s. Under the Fairy Tail member’s guidance, he was able to join the titular guild himself one year later at the age of nineteen. He excelled in the environment, finishing jobs in record time and accomplishing dangerous tasks on his own like nothing. His destructive magic still caused him issues at times, but he was in full control. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Until he didn’t.
The praise he had gotten used to slowly started to feel empty. He heard similar sentiments shared between members, and slowly… well, a dangerous mentality took place: He wasn’t special, they were just saying that to keep him from blowing their heads off. He wasn’t destined for great things, he was just someone who needed the bare minimum in terms of acknowledgment in order to keep him calm. For two years, these thoughts festered away as he worked for the guild as an adamant member: He grew colder and more distant with every compliment.
He knew he was strong, but why was he destined for great things? He knew he could handle himself, but why was he going to become someone possibly important in the future? The more he heard, the more he began questioning the origin of their statements even further. This led to him questioning not only his praise, but questioning everything. Did he not have a choice in what he did? Was he always going to become somebody?
It culminated.
He got into a fight with his mentor during his last job. By then, the old man had begun stepping away from Fairy Tail and the adventurer life, intent on retiring from it all once their last job was done. Lo and behold, they were ambushed by simple thieves - and began fighting each other once Iago’s temper got the best of him. His questions and thoughts came pouring out in an unfiltered flood, his flames following shortly thereafter. The result of his outburst was the decimation of the thieves who attacked them, which was an immediate perk…. And it was immediately offset by Iago combusting due to his own anger.
He woke up in the infirmary, healed, but scarred almost beyond recognition. It was fitting that his Fairy Tail guild mark was scarred and scratched away too: He left the guild one month later, and began traveling solely on his own. If everyone wanted him to be a somebody, if there was really no choice in him becoming someone prominent or not, then he’d make a choice for himself. He would become a nobody out of spite for his destiny, setting aside any big events or large happenings in favor of living a simple life as a nomadic mage best recognized for his talent where cards were concerned.
So, that’s where he is now. Wandering, not really caring about others, disillusioned with adventure and more likely to flip someone off than take them under his wing.
Nice and simple.
Just the way he likes it.

MAGIC
This is where you'll put all of your magic and spells. Characters may only start with one magic type. A character's magic rank is equal to the character's class. The same applies to the four spells that a character starts with.
NAME: Hangman Magic
TYPE: Lost | Caster
RANK: B
SPECIALIZATION: No Defensive/Support Spells
PERK: His destructive power is boosted one rank higher as a trade-off for lacking defensive based abilities. Hey, no use in trying to shield himself at this point. He wants new scars, so why would he try to prevent himself from getting them? If he’s gonna go, might as well go out in a blaze of glory.
DESCRIPTION: Outnumbered, outmanned, outgunned, out planned. This is the reality that his opponents often find themselves in once Iago's magic comes into play. Destruction is second nature to him, and his Lost craft plays into this with magnificent lethality.
Hangman magic involves the creation of several indigo and violet colored cards between his hands. These cards appear to burn at remarkable temperatures, bolstering their destructive potential at his current level. He can control these cards with a great deal of skill, able to create more on a whim; Essentially, his titular magical ability is the art of creating card-shaped projectiles that he can shoot through the air at high speeds, allowing them to catch others off guard and deal remarkable damage along the way.
While it's a small detail, each Hangman card he creates has the exact same pattern on it.
DRAWBACKS: Hangman is... well, it's a unique sort of magic. While overuse can make Iago light-headed and nauseous as one would expect, there's a hidden danger to using Hangman: Their heat doesn't just materialize evenly, no, it's directly accompanied by a drastic rise in body temperature from Iago himself. The more he uses his magic, the hotter his body temperature becomes. As a result of this, over-use of his magic can cause his body to quite literally begin burning up. This is the cause of his scars: The more he uses his magic, the more likely it is that he'll spontaneously combust.
Additionally, the more cards he creates, the more his heat is spread out among them; One card is his best bet for finishing fights due to the damage it can cause, but it limits him in terms of area of effect or heavy hitting damage against multiple opponents. Basically, he has to constantly ask himself which option he would prefer: One super hot card that could deal some real damage on a single person, or multiple cards that have a lower collective heat but a greater range and ability to deal damage against multiple foes.
The heat dispersion between cards means that a single card will always burn as hot as a collective of his cards put together, but creating multiple cards ensures that they'll individually burn at a lower temperature as a result of their increased numbers. In other words, the fewer cards he has, the hotter they are individually and they each carry more potential for dealing heavy damage on a single foe. The more cards he has, the cooler they are individually, but he has more potential for ranged or mass damage.
SPELLS:
Place all spells related to your magic here. Characters get four free spells equal to their class at creation.
NAME: Chariot Gambit
TYPE: Offensive
RANK: B
MODS: Teleportation, Area of Effect
DESCRIPTION: Iago surrounds himself in a vortex of his created cards, then pushes them out from around him at high speeds. This releases an offensive blast around him capable of stretching 20 meters in length, with the cards promptly vanishing past a certain point. While the initial blast goes off, Iago himself appears to vanish from the epicenter, reappearing several meters away (up to 20) via a burst of flaming cards that vanish shortly thereafter. Thanks to the large amount of cards he creates, these cards don't burn what they strike, and instead only cut them akin to how blades would.
NAME: Magician Motion
TYPE: Offensive
RANK: B
MODS: Construct (Golem), Affliction (blindness)
DESCRIPTION: His cards gather together by his side, creating an eerie duplicate to Iago himself. Thanks to the amount of cards it takes to make this bad boy, he doesn't run the risk of burning others. Instead, this duplicate primarily serves to disorient or confuse enemies; It can't speak, but its lack of body weight means it can zip around at high speeds and act as a walking knife thanks to the card edges poking out from its knuckles. One can easily discern the original from the duplicate thanks to the duplicate possessing a cross-like symbol on its right hand where the Fairy Tail symbol would be on the original. When the golem is destroyed, the cards release a vibrant flash of light, often blinding the person who took the beast out.
NAME: Emperor Onslaught
TYPE: Offensive
RANK: B
MODS: Immobilization, Affliction (vertigo)
DESCRIPTION: The name says it all. Iago creates a swarm of cards, then launches them at his opponent. If this swarm hits, it circles his opponent at a breakneck pace, temporarily binding them in a cocoon of his own creation. However, since the cards are still moving, the additional effect of this is pretty clear: People tend to experience vertigo after being surrounded by his cards thanks to how fast they're moving. This is more so a way to deal with tedious or fast-moving enemies, as it doesn't actually deal any damage: The cards don't cut someone unless they actively try to get out of the cocoon and, even then, the cuts are often shallow and easily treated. The cards vanish immediately after their usage.
NAME: Hangman
TYPE: Offensive
RANK: B
MODS: Area of Effect, Knockback, Damage Over Time
DESCRIPTION: His namesake. A single card with a metric crap ton of power poured into it is created between his digits, then flung towards his enemy at remarkably high speeds. The result of its release is a tangible shockwave of blue fire around Iago that's released through his shoulders and legs, creating a sudden burst of intense heat that can ignite loose fabric or plant life around him. If someone's hit by this single card, the force of its release sends them flying - and that's not accounting for the continuous burn damage caused by the single card's heat. This is ultimately his end-all technique given its destructive power: This single card can go through walls and cause significant damage to the nearby area if he misses, let alone if he hits what he's aiming for! Better watch out!
